PLA

PLA (Polylactid) is a polymer based on natural materials (here: maize) which is fully bio-degradable. Similar to PET, it can be processed by stretch blowing, but is characterized by a smaller mechanical rigidity and lower temperature resistance (glass temperature 55°).

Applications are limited to non-carbonated beverages. Without an additional barrier, only a very short shelf life is possible. Gas permeability is 7-8 times as high as PET. PLA is just as hygroscopic as PET.
