Withstanding pressure
When filling carbonated drinks in PET bottles, the specific requirements of transportation and storage have to be taken into account.
- PET packages have to be particularly stable in terms of pressure so that they can be stacked high, one layer on top of the other
- Moreover, they have to be resistant to stress cracking or similar defects that could cause the bottles to burst
- Bottles also need to have a reliable gas barrier to improve their storage and shelf life
- They need to be designed with extra wide shoulders to prevent frothing
- Bottle stability after opening also plays an important role in ensuring that the product can be poured or drunk without difficulty
